Doula Care with RN Expertise!
Every woman deserves to experience labor and birth with respect to her individual needs and wishes.
I also believe every woman should be provided with the means of support to reach her goals safely. Parents deserve to be educated in regard to their options for the upcoming, life changing experiences that they are about to undertake. My prenatal education includes much more than bits of information about cervical changes, a few breathing techniques, hospital policies, and when to ask for your epidural. Expecting mothers need tools, hands on caregivers (high touch not high tech), knowledge about comfort measures, and techniques to aid in the progress of natural labor.
Women are not machines to be plugged in, turned up and down, or be hooked up to monitors for a constant read out of the uterus' every move and the fetus' every heartbeat. Less than 10% of women have a high-risk pregnancy. The term Doula means "woman servant" in German.
I use the title Doula because it is a term that is familiar to most people, but it does not fully describe exactly what I do. Unlike most doulas, I am a registered nurse with over 40 years of obstetrical experience. My mission is to provide support using my knowledge, experience, and expertise as an RN to help parents make informed decisions and to help them achieve their birthing goals with safety being top priority.
